‘Fashions fade, style is eternal’.
Yves Saint Laurent
Make your sewing personal define your own personal style, work out what suits you and what doesn’t. Once you know that, your designs and commitment will flow easier and you will always look stylish and feel confident in what you are wearing.
Sewing for me has always been personal and for what it is worth I would like to offer up a final word on my personal insight.
Most importantly one focus for me with this website is to encourage and inspire people to sew for enjoyment and to also use it as therapeutic activity. I truly hope that I have done this with you and that you have enjoyed coming this far and are going to continue enjoy visiting this site and soaking up all it has to offer.
You are not aware of this but I am trained in Reiki, in fact Reiki Master actually and sewing is another form of meditation for me, it helps to still my mind, and has if I am honest been the saviour of me. I am not saying you will not have your ups and downs with your sewing because you will, that happens when you are learning something. Overall I hope that you can give a mindful approach to your sewing.
I contemplated on this website every single day that I have worked on it with the consideration that it is too big, too complex, too much of a commitment but something inside me said no quite the opposite and carry on. All things are done in bite sized pieces and each person will only take from it what they need.
So I say to you what I have said to myself every day for the last two years, get started and then make little improvements as you go its only with experience that you can know what you can do and what you enjoy. Don’t be put off by the gap between where you are now and where you want to get, hopefully this site will give you one small step after step to get you closer to your goal.
‘Continuous effort – not strength or intelligence – is the key to unlocking our potential’
My wish is that your sewing is meaningful for you. That you will take the time to reflect on what you are doing because by investing your time you will allow yourself to have an emotional response, to allow your commitment to grow which will allow yourself to make connections.
As with everything in life find your own rhythm, don’t worry about how quickly or how good someone else is doing, value your own speed and savour your growing skills. But also use it to connect with others, there are so many people out there that want to learn or be better with their sewing even if it is just simply to know how to mend. This is all in the aim of living better, being more conscious about decisions and growing in confidence with every decision that you make.
For me it always has been about the process, watching the colours of the fibres as they pass through my fingers, noting every perfect stitch as it is made, considerations of possibilities of inventiveness.
Set yourself, limits, and goals, get excited, use what you have and push yourself.
Slowly very slowly people will come to the site and enjoy all it has to offer, I know this is true and the time I have spent here talking to you has been worth the time I have given.
I am excited that you have joined us. I know that we all can’t wait to see what you have created so please share it with us.
Love and Light to you all…
